It is estimate that there are nearly 25,000 chainsaw accidents every year in the United States. On average, chainsaw accidents require 110 stitches and will set you back thousands of dollars in medical bills. If used properly they can be an excellent asset to your employees and business.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration provides a QuickCard that can be placed with your chainsaws as reminders on how to appropriately and safely use them.
A few highlights from the QuickCard:
- Start the saw on the ground or on another firm support. Drop starting is never allowed.
- Keep your hands on the saw's handles, and maintain secure footing while operating the saw.
- Proper personal protective equipment must be worn when operating the saw, which includes hand, foot, leg, eye, face, hearing and head protection.
